HISTORY OF 7 OAKS FARM

An estate farm on the Hudson

The 7 Oaks estate was built by Charles Park in 1862 as a summer home for his family.  He named the house "7 Oaks" after the seven mighty oak trees ringing the sweeping front lawn.  The estate had a working farm to supply the family with fresh vegetables and fruit while in residence, consisting of a small animal barn, carriage barn, greenhouses, chicken runs and formal pleasure gardens.  In 1967, the artist Grace Knowlton subdivided the farm buildings from the estate house and, under the guidance of architect Hugh Hardy, converted the animal and carriage barns into her primary residence, with the additional outbuildings serving as artist studio spaces for herself and friends.  Today, we're carrying on the legacy of 7 Oaks farm by supplying rare and unusual vegetables/fruits and a curated selection of ceramic and other artistic items.
